Q. What's your team's role?
Our team is in charge of marketing for all LINE Games' games for both Korea and global services. We define and execute marketing strategies, such as benchmarking, marketing plans, and media operation based on the project's campaign goals. For global marketing, we collaborate with global media and LINE branch offices in each country.
Q. What is your role in the team?
As a leader, I'm involved in all of our marketing campaigns rather than working on one specific campaign. Since communication is so vital in marketing, I do a lot of communication work with both internal and external parties. To give a brief outline, our team can be categorized into two parts: the planning part and the UA part. The planning part is responsible for planning and executing marketing strategies. For example, for a launch campaign, the planning part plans the marketing concept and communicates with agencies. The UA part will focus on data-intensive tasks to optimize media/marketing resources through media strategy and operations. They do a lot of communication with domestic and foreign media companies and attend media seminars to understand the rapidly changing UA trends.
Q. When do you find your work most rewarding?
It's great when we accomplish high revenue, achieve our KPI, and when we get recognition for doing good work. However, it is most rewarding when we feel trusted by our colleagues and they say, "We never worry about marketing."
Q. What are some skills and qualities required for the job?
There are many different positions within marketing such as brand marketers, UA marketers, etc. Things may vary between positions but I think the most important thing for marketers is the ability to communicate. Lack of communication skills will cause a lot of confusion when planning a campaign strategy, analyzing the data, and delivering the results. This is why communication skills are important. In addition, you also need to be a good listener, because you need to draw insight and lead communication during meetings with external partners by listening first.
Q. What kind of personality is appropriate for the job?
I think this applies to all fields of work, but the marketer needs to be someone that has a strong sense of responsibility. There are times when marketing work can be really stressful. You might run out of ideas, or blame yourself for a failed campaign and at times you just want to run away. But if you hang in there and take responsibility and try your best, you will be rewarded with a good result. In addition, you need an active personality. Marketers can create something out of nothing and find something new from something already existing. A good example would be all the collaborations and cross-promotions. A desire to discover new things and not being afraid of a challenge is a must.
Q. Any ways to develop the skills needed for the job?
Being able to make a great speech doesn't mean you have good communication skills. Communication should be mutual and in order to become a great communicator, you should be a great listener. People love being heard. Repeatedly listening and asking questions is a great method to practice your communication skills. Also, it's always easier to explain things if you have an example or reference to share. Learn to collectively organize your ideas and thoughts by reading critics and comparing them with your own thoughts.
People that share a common dream
Q. Why choose LINE Games?
Games need to be fun. As obvious as it sounds, it's not easy to achieve considering the current trend of the gaming market. Maintaining this motto is especially hard for big companies. However, LINE Games' motto, "Only Fun," is still going strong. It's possible because we still believe and dream that games should always be fun. A company with such a simple but strong motto seemed very attractive to me, and here I am at LINE Games.
Q. Any cool places at the LINE Games office? (Company café, Massage room, etc.)
I often use the massage room. My shoulder and wrist feel a bit rusty, so I go to get a massage twice a week. Professional massage therapists give you the most appropriate care. It's quite popular, so you must make a reservation!
Do you like marketing?
Come be my colleague!
Q. What type of colleagues would you like to work with?
Someone who has a dream, just like my colleagues. As I said before, due to the nature of this work, there are times when you just want to give up. But iff you have a dream, you won't give up easily.
Q. Any advice for applicants?
Marketing is definitely not something easy or simple. We always ponder, try to think outside the box, or persuade others with our ideas. But as ironic as it sounds, these are the things that also make marketing attractive. If you want to tackle continuously challenging tasks and learn together, LINE Games is the place to be!
