Q. What's your team's role?
Our team (analysis/engineering) collects and analyzes all game logs from all of the games in LINE Games' lineup. Our team's work is mainly divided into two: before and after game launch. Before launch, we blueprint data structure and metrics for analysis and conduct data consistency checks through a closed beta test (CBT). After launch, we serve as a business intelligence (BI) that collects/analyzes the game's log data and proposes improvements that can be made by identifying problems. In addition, we do everything related to data, including global game market analysis, analysis algorithms, data platform development, etc.
Q. What is your role in the team?
As a data engineer, I extract and transform log data from domestic and global games for analysis and load it into a DB (ETL: extract, transform, load). My job is to develop an ETL platform for analysis environment and to create an advanced ETL environment through automation. In addition, I'm developing an analysis platform for data analysts to understand and analyze the current state of the game.
Q. What does a normal day at work look like?
Every morning, I check the ETL log and check if the previous day's data has loaded correctly. Data errors affect data analysis, so if an error occurs it should be dealt with immediately. If an error occurs, first I need to analyze the issue, find the technologies to handle it, and test it once the work is done. I'm working to make the ETL platform more advanced by applying new tested technologies for live service. In addition, I am also developing several APIs and platforms for data analysis.

Q. What are some skills and qualities required for the job?
Within the data engineering team, it is important to have the ability to handle programming languages (Java, Python, etc.), to utilize open source software, and understand the distributed workflow. The majority of our work is done via Linux, so an understanding of the basic Linux environment is also required. In addition, data work relies heavily on computer science, statistics, and mathematical knowledge, so it helps to study these fields. Most of all, you need to like and enjoy playing games.
Q. What kind of personality is appropriate for the job?
Since our team works with big data, we need to quickly embrace the latest trends and new technologies related to big data. Therefore, if you have creativity, an experimental spirit, and the desire to learn you are a good fit for the role. In addition, we do a lot of communication with other teams, so communication skills are also needed.
Q. Which skill set do you think helped you in joining LINE Games?
During college, I majored in computer and statistical applied mathematics with a dream of becoming a data scientist. I may lack the expertise compared to a single major, but computer programming has taught me how to combine a variety of statistical techniques and algorithmic interpretations. This knowledge allowed me to work with data with the computer's accuracy, statistical reliability, and mathematical logic. These factors helped me join LINE Games.

Q. Why choose LINE Games?
Before I came to LINE Games, I had some experience working with finance and US marketing data, where they use more external data than internal data. Once we start relying on external data, we have limited access and credibility of the analysis drops. At LINE Games, we get to select, confirm, and manage the internal data we need to work on, which is a big plus.
Q. What's the best part of the welfare system at LINE Games?
A free atmosphere is the pride of LINE Games. At LINE Games, office hours and the overall work environment are very free. We can get creative results in a free atmosphere, that would not happen in a rigid atmosphere. If you need a quick break, you can always have a tea or play table tennis, darts, or video games. The overall atmosphere of the company increases work efficiency and enables us to create better results.

Q. What type of colleagues would you like to work with?
LINE Games colleagues are a big part of my life since I spend more time together with them than with family and friends. Therefore, I hope it's someone who we can share our compassion and be comforting like family or friends.
Q. Any advice for applicants?
Games might be simple entertainment for some and something much more valuable and enjoyable for others. I believe one of the most important things in life is the pleasure of entertaining someone. I hope you become part of LINE Games, help create fun, and that you can be happy.
